Baskets and Clothes

Sandie Thao

HMoob families kept their clothes in laundry baskets because they could not afford big homes with large storage space such as dressers and closets.

“ I remember all of our family would go to the laundromat. It would usually take a whole night because there were 10 kids plus my parents you know that’s a lot of laundry. I especially can remember the clinky sound of coins but also the dreaded crusty socks no one wanted to touch, blegh. I think looking back now, gah I wished I had my siblings to help me fold my laundry haah, it was a place with a lot of other HMoob families sometimes I’d run into my friends there. Even today Sometimes I even feel more productive doing laundry at a laundromat versus at home, I think my brain associates the two already and it just feels right." - Sandie Thao
